Black Powder: Austrian - Line Infantry IR 23

I have yet another Austrian regiment to show off. Then one we are looking at this time is Infantry Regiment 23 Würzburg. The regiment suffered greatly during the Teugn-Hausen battle as they came up against 3 battalions of French light infantry and in a forest no less, not the ideal ground for a formed regiment. During the fighting the regiment was faltering under some intense fire and started to retreat, their brigade commander, Generalmajor Alois Liechtenstein took their standard and personally led the regiment once more into the forest to deal with the French skirmishers.

The regiment broke into the woods but was soon repulsed again, Liechtenstein getting severely wounded for his effort.

The regiment was badly mauled later in the campaign as well, and after it it was disbanded for the next 5 years until they reformed again in 1814.

As I have looked into this regiment they seem like a hard fighting lot, as they had no less than 3 different commanders between the years 1802 and 1809, most had just a single one...

Anyways, to represent this I have modeled this battalion after the story, giving them a commander with a flag and some more action in the unit than I normally have, giving them firing and charging positions to represent their charge into the forest. As they had 2 battalions in the field here, I plan on doing the same to the next one. It's always fun to do some small things like this, and not have every battalion looking as they are on parade.

    1. These are from Victrix, well the bodies are at least. The heads here are from Perrys Austrians as my Victrix box didn't have the helmets =)

    1. Thank you, I only wish the rest of the regiments had such stories where I could find them =)

  3. VERY very cool unit Ulf! That heroic officer really adds to the unit, so does the great basing you've achieved here. Those stones, where did you find them?

    1. Thank you, I'm very glad it worked out =)
The stones comes from a really special and magical place. After a long quest I could finally get my hands on them, outside my house on the street ;)
They are just from when they have sanded the street during winter, right outside we have a box they fill up so that you can throw some sand on your driveway.
